Oncology is repeat-visit healthcare. Patients and families come back for months, often for hours at a time, which changes what the lighting has to do — a room that is merely adequate on a first visit becomes exhausting on a fortieth.
Day-care and infusion areas are specified so that a patient reclined for several hours never has a source in their field of view, with light delivered off surfaces instead of straight down onto the chair.
Family and waiting spaces sit warmer than the clinical schedule, giving people somewhere in the building that does not feel like treatment.
